Best Battery Recycling Stocks

Like any other stock, investing in battery recycling company stocks come with a risk.

Whether they are traded on the New York stock exchange or elsewhere, a smart investing decision will be better than making a critical mistake that can cost you.

Li-Cycle Holdings

The first on the list is the Canadian-based Li-Cycle Holdings.

Currently, it's market cap is estimated at $1.3 billion. The company is the largest recycler of lithium ion batteries in North America – making it a solid investment in the lithium ion battery sector.

In 2021, it has went public with the help of a SPAC merger that took place in August of that year.

Li-Cycle currently collects and recycles lithium ion batteries from 85 sources. Once recycled, the are resold as battery metals including nickel, manganese, cobalt, graphite, and lithium carbonate.

The company received an investment of $100 million through Koch Strategic Platforms and has a partnership with LG Chem and LG Energy, some of the top battery manufacturers in the world. Both companies plan on investing $50 million upon the condition that they meet their commercial milestones.

As part of their Hub and Spoke business model, Li-Cycle has battery recycling facilities that are located next to battery manufacturers (known as spokes). Meanwhile, hubs are facilities that will take broken batteries and create metals that can be used in new batteries.

Li-Cycle will sell these metals to the manufacturers themselves. They also plan to have up to 100,000 tons of capacity at their Spokes and double that in their hubs by 2025. Currently, they have hubs in Kingston, Ontario (Canada) and Rochester, New York (United States).

They have plans for constructing even more hubs in the United States and in parts of Europe. One of the hubs will be constructed in Norway, which is the leading country for electric vehicles on the European Market. More than three-quarters of the market share consist of EVs.

Once completed, the hub in Norway will be powered completely by clean energy. The same may be expected for the other facilities in Europe and the United States. While the future is looking bright for the company, it may be important to pay attention to the financials.

In their latest financial results, they generated nearly $8.7 million in sales. This signals that the company may not be as profitable as one may assume. Yet, they have over $500 million cash on hand, which can give some investors confidence in the company's future going forward.

Even though dividends are a good thing, it may be a good idea to look at the bigger picture. That is considering the long-term growth of the stock and eventual increase of its value.

American Battery Technology Company

Next, we have the American Battery Technology Company (ABML).

This is a small-cap stock with no known reports for revenue. However, this may be a good time to get in on it before it's able to grow more in value.

This Nevada company not only extracts lithium, but also recycles it. The current CEO and CTO is a former engineer for Tesla – which is likely a good sign for the company. Because of the environmental risks involved, the company uses technology that will prevents high-temperature processing.

As of now, the company is building a recycling plant for non-thermal batteries. Upon completion, it is expected that 20,000 tons will be processed each year with revenue being generated in mid to late 2022.
